Rural housing shortage addressed by 76 lot subdivision
Approved by Council last week, the sub division of 21 hectares of land will release 76 lots ranging in size from 10,300m2 to 2,000m2.
“This is an historic project for the Shire of Cunderdin,” Shire President, Graham Cooper said. “Like other rural towns in Western Australia, we’re negatively impacted by a lack of housing. This projects addresses that major issue and enables the Shire to have a more secure and exciting future.”
The lots will be released over 5 stages with expressions of interest for the first stage blocks welcome within a fortnight. There are ten lots initially – two have already been sold - ranging in size from 10,200m2 to 10,380m2. Each will have access to power, water and communications including broadband capabilities. The subsequent stages will involve smaller lots of around 2,000m2.
While strongly supported by the Council, the sub division – known as Cunderdin Crest Estate - is a private undertaking by long time Cunderdin resident, John Harris.
“I started working on this project several years ago and it came about due to what I saw as a significant demand for housing in Cunderdin,” said developer, John Harris.
“I’m passionate about the town and want to continue living here into the future in a lively, vibrant community.
“To achieve that we need to attract more people and by releasing this land we can offer the perfect opportunity for anyone who still wants to be close enough to Perth but can see the rewards that come with a rural lifestyle.
“The bigger blocks will probably be sold to people who may have bought into a rural area some years ago – maybe closer to the coast – but are now finding it’s quite urbanised and they want to get back to more open country living.
“The smaller lots will be attractive to people who want an affordable block of land – somewhere they can build their own house – in a safe, family oriented environment that’s easy driving distance to Perth.
“Cunderdin has the luxury of excellent facilities including an airport, railway station and access to the Great Eastern Highway. We also have a large number of vibrant sporting clubs, community organisations and a range of services many other country towns can’t boast.
“Living here is literally like having the best of both worlds – a great country community with easy access to the city,” concluded Mr Harris.
The land at Cunderdin Crest Estate is being sold through Landmark Kellerberrin who can be contacted by phone on (08) 9045 4221.
